stormblossom
was Joe’s senior thesis film at USC. Created entirely will cell animation, shot on 16mm film, and using hand painted watercolor backgrounds, it remains one of Joe’s most ambitious projects. Over 600 individual hand painted cells were used in the creation of this film. Obviously inspired by Houksai’s The Great Wave, as well as other Japanese woodblock prints in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the film went on to be nominated for an audience choice award at the Long Beach film festival.
The music is “African Flower” off the album Money Jungle, by Duke Ellington.
